A very quick stop in the misting rain at Lucasville Cemetery in Southern Ohio. This is one of the oldest cemeteries in this part of the state, with Revolutionary War burials, as well as the parents of the founder of Lucasville, Capt. John Lucas (War of 1812), William, Sr. and Susannah Lucas (her grave is pictured here, DOD 1809). She is listed as "Sen." to differentiate her from her daughter of the same name.
The daughter, Susannah, was a twin to Brig. Gen. William Lucas, Jr. (1773-1805), who is buried at the Lucas-Noel Cemetery on the grounds of the Elks Country Club, located near the 2nd hole. Another brother, Joseph, is also buried at Lucas-Noel.
William, Sr. and Susannah, Sr. were parents also to Robert Lucas, two-time governor of Ohio, and first territorial governor of Iowa. More photographs & history to follow at a later date from not only Lucasville, but also Lucas-Noel at the Elks (one of two or three cemeteries on a golf course in the US), and Noel Historical off Route 23.
